Homemade Hob Cleaner

Before we go any further I’d like to say that I’m aware of just how filthy my hob was before I started cleaning it. Let me just explain myself by saying, firstly… I’m a little bit lazy, secondly… I did actually leave it for longer than I normally would so the filth would clearly show up on camera! (That’s my excuse anyway).

This homemade hob cleaner uses 2 of my favourite eco-friendly cleaning ingredients:

how to clean a dirty hob
There’s no denying that this hob is filthy!

1. First off, sprinkle baking soda all over the hob.

2. Sprinkle a bit of vinegar over the baking soda.

3. Mix the baking soda and vinegar together and then leave it for at least 15 minutes to do its magic.

4. After at least 15 minutes get a clean cloth and start cleaning the dirty bits. You’ll find the greasiness and any baked on food easily comes away.

5. After a while you’ll notice lots of dirty lumpy bits of baking soda. Just clear them away.

6. After clearing all the dirty clumped baking soda off the hob, rinse the cloth you were using and wipe the hob.

If you left the baking soda and vinegar mixture for long enough there’s no need at all for any elbow grease. The hob is easily cleaned and will look like new. (As new as an oldish oven can anyway)

I didn’t actually pour baking soda or vinegar over the top right hob but did give it a wipe with the wet cloth at the end. This just shows that the cleaning mixture worked really well everywhere else and that plain old water just wouldn’t have done the job successfully.

Water just didn’t clear away the mess from this bit

For a simple and cheap eco-friendly hob cleaner I couldn’t be more pleased with the results!

Baking soda and vinegar can be used as a cleaner for lots of different jobs around the house, it’s equally as good as a toilet cleaner. Check out the eco-friendly way to clean your whole kitchen and the eco-friendly way to clean your bathroom.
