Eco-Friendly Tours

How are the tours on this website eco-friendly?

Most of the tours / trips you’ll see on Green Eco Friend are from either G Adventures or Contiki. I’ve chosen specific tours from these companies which most align with my own beliefs.

G Adventures

The tours I’ve chosen from G Adventures are all from The Jane Goodall Collection. There are 20 wildlife-focused tours across the world, all endorsed by the world-renowned ethologist, Dr. Jane Goodall.

G Adventures also aim to support local communities and local companies as much as possible. The tour guides are all local as well.

“Like all of our tours, this collection upholds our Animal Welfare Policy. This means you get to step deeper into the animal kingdom while respecting all of its subjects.

For the past four decades, the Jane Goodall Institute has worked to foster deeper understanding of great apes and provide support for the communities and other animals who share their natural habitats. G Adventures is proud to partner with the Institute to create awareness about, and support for, their mission to protect wildlife and empower local communities.”

Contiki

As Contiki themselves say “From street tours that support local residents, refugees and the vulnerably housed, to dining experiences that support local farmers, our conscious travel experiences let you see things from a different perspective.” Contiki have a whole section on their website called “Contiki Cares”. In partnership with the Treadright Foundation they have made a pledge to “Make Travel Matter”.

TreadRight is a not for profit organisation that has supported over 50 sustainable tourism projects worldwide. “At TreadRight, our mission is clear; to have a positive impact on the people and communities we visit, to protect wildlife and marine life, and to care for the planet we call home.” I’ve focussed on tours which have benefitted and continue to benefit from these sustainable tourism projects on Green Eco Friend.

Contiki’s Make Travel Matter Pledge

I will make my travel matter – for our planet, for people and for wildlife.
When I explore this planet, I will do my best to tread right.
I will refuse single use plastics when I can and recycle what I cannot avoid.
When possible, I will offset my travels.
When I meet new people I will honor their home as I do my own, and do so in the spirit of diversity and inclusion.
I will purchase locally made items wherever possible and pay a fair price.
When I experience wildlife, I will do so in nature.
I will not ride animals that ought not be ridden, or support animal cruelty in any way.
Together, we will tread right upon the earth – and we will make our travel matter.
